Your permit will be valid for two years. Once you receive your sellers permit, you'll be billed $20.00 by the Department of Revenue in the mail for your business tax registration fee. They will include a return envelope. Every business has a business tax registration fee.

Who must obtain a seller's permit?
A seller's permit is required for every individual, partnership, corporation that makes retail sales or sells tangible personal property in Wisconsin, unless the sales are tax exempt.
Why am I required to enter my social security number?
The department requires this information to make sure proper identification of the tax payor.
What if I don't have a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)?
For most small business, a FEIN is not required. For an LLC, it is required.

Are sales tax returns filed electronically?
Sales Tax Filing Requirements
Administrative rule section Tax 11.01(2)(b) requires sales and use tax returns to be filed electronically. The rule allows for a waiver of the requirement to file electronically if it's determined to cause an undue hardship.
